Approaching, you immediately recognize Kadey-Krogen's signature workboat styling. Her beam is wide, her lines are rounded and graceful. Her high bow gives a sense of strength and capability, and knowing her ballast, there is an immediate sense of her safety.
The bow is wide with high gunwales and equipped with two anchors: the main is a 60 lb Ultra Anchor with 300 feet of chain and a secondary 45 lb plow anchor on approx. 6 ft of chain and 200 rode. The windlass is an electric Lofran Tigres.
The aft cockpit is fully enclosed with canvas and isinglass panels which slide or lift up out of the way to either protect from inclement weather, allow a breeze at anchor or a friendly chat at the dock. The full walkaround is partially covered and ample enough to walk to the bow to assist anchoring or handle lines while docking. Kadey-Krogen 39s are known for their ease in handling for a single-hander or a couple.
The ladder in the cockpit leads to the flybridge and boat deck. The flybridge helm is equipped with Furuno navigation and an area to sit on both sides of the captain’s chair. The propane locker is under the starboard settee, storage under the port. The expansion tank for the Hurricane Hydronic heat system is under the helm station to port.
Entering the main salon through the heavy water tight door, to port is a convertible settee (reportedly the overnight guests' pick for most comfortable), starboard is an L-settee and salon table. Storage abounds underneath both settees; when a couple of deck chairs are added, you could entertain six for a snug gathering. Large windows and portlights allow plenty of natural light.
Forward to starboard is the compact galley equipped with a Sea Freeze fridge and freezer (new 2019), Forced 10 3-burner stove and oven, stainless sink, and Sunbeam microwave (added 2019). For a galley of this size, I am impressed with the amount of storage above and below the counter tops. Across from the galley are shelves for your library and entertainment system with drawers and storage below.
Other notables are the amount of louvered doors throughout the boat allowing plenty of air circulation in the cupboards to help mitigate any odors or possibility of condensation; the satin finished teak lends a beautiful warmth to the interior. The headroom is impressive: 6’10” in the salon and galley. At the base of the stairs and the master is 6’4” headroom. The boat is heated by a Hurricane Hydronic diesel heat system or portable electric heaters.
Continuing forward up the stairs to the pilothouse, the Splendide washer/dryer combo is discretely hidden behind louvered doors. The pilothouse has two watertight Dutch doors to enjoy fresh air while underway without needing to open the full door. It is well laid out with the helm station flanked by chart tables, the electronics are easy to read, and controls are all within easy reach. The true heavy wood captain’s wheel adds to the charm of the trawler workboat style. Large windows allow very good visibility. The settee behind the helm is a perfect spot to enjoy the cruise and may convert to a double berth.
The stateroom and head are down a curved staircase. The private stateroom is forward with an island queen with louvered storage, drawers and a vanity. The head compartment has a separate standing shower, sink vanity, and the toilet was replaced with an electric Dometic (macerating) toilet in 2018.
The engine compartment is accessed through a heavy thick teak faced door at the base of the stairs. As you enter, the John Deere is directly ahead of you, a workbench with drawers lies starboard; the water heater, fuse panel, battery chargers are to port. To either side of the compartment are the fuel tanks with sight tubes and access panels for inspection purposes. Further aft is the 6kw Northern Lights generator and plenty of storage for spares.
She is compact and very well equipped. I know that her current owners have traveled extensively and have shared that they were very comfortable.

VIRTUAL TOUR - VIDEO - 80 TO 100 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS AND 360 PHOTOS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS 2004 KADEY-KROGEN 39!
Research Kadey-Krogen and you will realize that these boats are chosen for their seaworthiness; they are both practical and elegant. This one is understated in her appearance but has the amenities for long range coastal cruising. She has ventured to Alaska and throughout the Salish Sea. She runs extremely economically burning only 2.5 gph while cruising a comfortable 7-8 knots.
The current owners have upgraded the sanitation system with a new Dometic electric head to conserve water and LED lights throughout to conserve power while at anchor. They've upgraded the refrigeration with a 12v Sea Freeze fridge and freezer, And they've maintained meticulous records and a complete Maintenance, Operations and Procedures log which includes the time and materials needed to complete each task and when it was accomplished during their ownership; a complete “what, where, when” guide to your maintenance regime – all you need is the “who”, which may be you or the lucky person of your choosing!
This KK-39 will not disappoint!
